Today marks the 24th day of a 90-day yoga, Brahmacharya celibacy, and meditation challenge currently underway in Tamil Nadu, India. This season’s challenge is now in the fifth stage, with participants sharing their experiences and answering questions that are intended to help them better understand and practice the traditional teachings of yoga.
Not only have participants been working on their physical health through yoga poses, they have also been paying close attention to their Brahmacharya celibacy, a practice that focuses on abstaining from sexual activity and material possessions. Celibacy is essential to yoga, as having too many desires can prevent the practitioner from achieving the peak state of awareness.
The most interesting part of this challenge the participants are facing every day, however, is the meditation practice. This includes using a series of mantras, or sounds, and visualizations, as well as focusing on the breath. Meditation helps to calm the mind, enabling better concentration and focus on the pose. Regular meditation helps to improve the clarity of the mind and the ability to stay in the present moment.
The value of this challenge lies in its ability to show how the practice of yoga can not only empower the physical body, but also help one gain control of mental and emotional life experiences. At the end of the ninety days, the participants will be equipped to better handle the challenges of life through a deeper understanding of yoga.
Overall, the ninety-day challenge has presented a great opportunity to practice and understand the traditional discipline of yoga in an immersive way. The participants’ experiences thus far have helped to shift perspective and reveal the essence of yoga. The challenge is bound to bring many more inspiring and life-transforming findings over the course of its duration.
